Neil Gaiman: „I feel like the days of social media are kind of ending.“

I’ve loved blogging. I blog less now, the era of micro-blogging, but I feel like the days of social media are kind of ending. And it may be time to go back and start blogging as I used to blog.

Because I miss the days of just sort of feeling, like you could create a community by talking in a sane and cheerful way to the world.

But it’s interesting because people are leaving. Twitter is over. Twitter is done. It’s definitely overdone. The new Twitters, like Threads and Bluesky, nothing is going to do what that thing once did. Facebook works, but it doesn’t really work.

So I think probably the era of blogging may return, and maybe people will come and find you and find me again, even if it’s just old people.

Bloggen, oder wie ich es nenne: unter eigener Domain ins Netz schreiben.

Gaimans Soundbite verstehe ich weniger als Kritik an sozialen Medien, sondern als Befürwortung eines persönlichen Blogs. Das ActivityPub-Protokoll birgt dabei die Hoffnung, dass die Grenzen zukünftig verschwimmen.

Meine (bezahlte) Startempfehlung für ein digitales Zuhause im Netz lautet weiterhin Micro.blog.

Mittlerweile shoppt man sich seine individuelle URL direkt dort, und bespielt es anschließend mit den eigenen Software-Favoriten – von Ulysses über iA Writer bis Drafts oder die Micro.blog-App.
