Seit August starte ich Kurzbefehle und öffne Apps über die iPhone-Aktionstaste – bis zu acht Actions bekommt man dort im systemweiten Zugriff.

I was finally able, this weekend, to push out a round of planned updates to my iOS quick notes app, Bebop. Updates that I simply wouldn’t have/didn’t have time for prior to the latest AI coding models.

Auch zwei Jahre später klickt Bebop noch für mich – insbesondere mit der Einbindung als externer Ordner in Ulysses sowie Sprache-zu-Text-Diktaten.

I think you could make the same case for PCs and phones as well: what we already have is already more than sufficient for almost any task we want to do.

Moreover, the plateau in thick client capability is happening at the same time that the need for any capability at all is disappearing, thanks to these entirely new AI workflows that happen in the cloud. Yes, it sucks that AI is making memory scarce and personal computers of all kinds — from PCs to phones to consoles — more expensive; it’s also making them less important than ever.

Und die Antwort darauf liegt seit Jahren vergraben in Software: Welche Arbeitsabläufe ermöglicht welche „Suite of Apps“ für welche Situationen.

Die mir zur Verfügung stehende Prozessorpower ist schon lang „gut genug“ – von einem M1 im iPad über den M2 Pro im Mac mini bis zum A19 Pro im iPhone. Was dagegen immer besser werden kann: alles andere – von Konnektivität bis Kameras.

Der Termin torpediert rein zufällig den diesjährigen Mobile World Congress in Barcelona und findet gleichzeitig in mehreren Städten statt (New York, London und Shanghai).

Warten wir’s ab, aber ein neues Format für Produktvorstellungen könnte bereits den zukünftigen Zeitplanwechsel im Jahr 2027 berücksichtigen, in dem neue iPhones sowohl im Frühling als auch im Herbst erscheinen sollen.

Finnland nutzt eine einheitliche Online-Plattform für alle Schüler:innen, Lehrkräfte und Eltern – von Essensplänen bis Krankmeldungen, Schulnoten und einem generellen Nachrichtenaustausch. Mit zwei Kiddos habe ich allein darüber täglichen Übersetzungsbedarf.

Translate.Kagi.com erfüllt diesen auch ohne Abo– ich könnte mir derzeit jedoch nicht vorstellen, die bezahlte Suite aufzugeben.

Besonders wertvoll ist die neue iOS-Software als Standard-App: Damit stoße ich systemweit – ohne App-Wechsel – eine Übersetzung an.

Hilfreich wäre hier jedoch ein Button für den direkten Sprung in die App, um alternative Umschreibungen für einzelne Wörter einzusehen. Synonyme geben mir nämlich oft ein besseres Verständnis im Kontext einer Mail oder Nachricht.

Ohnehin kitzelt der gewählte Übersetzungsstil (formal, wortwörtlich etc.) mehr Begriffsvermögen aus dem jeweiligen Text, den man verstehen möchte.

Und auf dem iPad passt die iPhone-only-App übrigens perfekt in ein Slide-Over-Fenster.

Nautiline ist eine harte Empfehlung für die eigene Musik auf einem eigenen OpenSonic-Server. Für Episode 490 hatte ich mir sie alle angeschaut, nein angehört, und Jungspund Nautiline blieb hängen.

Nicht nur als mobile iPhone-App, sondern auch stationär am Schreibtisch ist dies mein iPod, den ich dauerhaft geöffnet lasse.

Besonders ist, dass die Software nichts Besonderes macht, aber kompromisslos Musik ins Rampenlicht stellt. Das (anpassbare) Layout und die geile Typografie bieten euren lokalen Musikdateien eine große Bühne.

Ich hätte Freundschaften in Frage gezogen, wenn mir vor Jahren jemand erzählt hätte, ich würde im Streaming-Zeitalter noch MP3s schubsen. But here we are…ein Musikplayer für eigene Musik mit Fokus auf eigene Musik – was für eine verrückte Idee.

Alle großen Spotlight-Neuerungen aus macOS 26 erreichen hoffentlich auch die nächste iPadOS-Version. Bis dahin merkt man sich die Spotlight-Tastenkombination CMD + B: Sie stößt über eine externe Tastatur von überall aus eine Websuche an.
