Time telling is where Apple Watch fares worst compared to traditional watches. That was inevitable. The primary purpose of traditional watches is telling time. Apple Watch is a general purpose computing device, for which telling time is an important, but not primary, use.
Up until now, it struck me as odd that the $10,000 Edition models came with the same bands4 as the entry-model $349/399 Sport watches. Having worn it, it now strikes me the other way around — that the $349/399 Sport watches are equipped with straps that can genuinely be described as luxurious, fluoroelastomer or not.
The watch is not life-changing. It is, however, excellent. Apple will sell millions of these devices, and many people will love and obsess over them. It is a wonderful component of a big ecosystem that the company has carefully built over many years. It is more seamless and simple than any of its counterparts in the marketplace. It is, without question, the best smartwatch in the world.
Primarily around the notification and glance-able data experience, I saw a behavioral shift in how I used my iPhone. In many ways the Apple Watch untethered me from my iPhone the way the iPhone untethered me from my PC.

Fast alle Reviews führen vor Augen, dass noch niemand eine Idee hat wohin Apple Watch wächst. Der Testzeitraum war zu kurz um ernsthaft Aussagen über die sozialen Aspekte der Uhr zu machen.
Technisch wurde sie umfassend abgefeiert, keine Frage. Die Batterielaufzeit ist okay-ish; die App-(Fern‑)Ladezeiten dürften schneller sein und in puncto Push-Benachrichtigungen räumt man besser auf, sonst klingelt und brummt es konstant.
Die rein technischen Aspekte sind aber relativ. Die Software, so wie sie sich heute präsentiert, ist bis zum Sommer fünfmal nachkorrigiert, beschleunigt und umgekrempelt. Den Journalisten mit Vorab-Testmuster standen außerdem nur eine Handvoll Drittanbieter-Apps zur Verfügung.
Die Uhr ist so spannend, weil ihr zum Teil der Technik-Fokus fehlt. Gruber endet seinen Artikel auf der folgenden Note:
If you’re the only person you know with an Apple Watch, your timekeeping will still be precise, your activity tracking will still be accurate — but digital touch as a form of communication will be pointless.
Ich behaupte, die (zwischen‑)menschliche Perspektive blieb bis jetzt weitgehend ungetestet. Soweit ich die Reviews las (und ich habe versucht sie alle zu lesen), hat keiner der Tester_innen diese Funktionen mit seinen eigenen Kids oder seinem Partner ausprobiert. Kein Wunder: Apple verteilte die Uhr nicht im Doppelpack. Klar, die US-Journalisten tauschten sich untereinander aus. Intimität blieb dabei aber sicherlich auf der Strecke.
Um die Uhr ernsthaft einzuordnen, müssen wir sie selbst ausprobieren. Aus den Reviews nehme ich mit: Apple Watch ist meine Zeit und mein Geld wert.
