The iPad Pro isn’t the ultimate evolution of the original iPad and it isn’t the beginning of the end of MacBooks. It’s an transition point. It’s the moment when tablets that are highly accessible also became highly capable.
Zugegeben: Die Gegenüberstellung mit einem MacBook liegt auf der Hand. „Ersetzt das iPad Pro den Laptop?“ ist eine bewegende Frage. Es bleibt gleichzeitig aber auch eine sehr theoretische Diskussion, die übersieht, das iPads schon heute eine Realität sind.

Firmen lieben hochspezialisierte Software auf Geräten, die keine kontinuierliche Administration benötigen, augenblicklich Starten, kinderleicht Zugriffsrechte setzt und bei der man sich sich nicht um Virensoftware oder App-Updates kümmern muss. In diesen vermeintlichen Limitierungen schlummert ein Wert, den viele Anwender auch für sich privat erkennen und sich deshalb aktiv dafür entscheiden.
Look. I get it. There are completely valid arguments for why statements like Tim Cook’s ‘end of the PC’ quote yesterday could be considered marketing hype or delusion. But there is a bigger issue. I am absolutely fed up with tech bloggers and technical writers assuming that all people use computers the way they do. There is no longer just the ‘truck’ of the desktop and laptop and the ‘car’ of the phone. There are gradations of tone in between, and the iPad Pro absolutely, 100% could be the central computing device for a home. Many days, I run TechCrunch from my phone. On those days, the ‘traditional’ computers in my household lie dormant, completely. If you think this is an edge case, you are blinding yourself to the way the world has changed.
