The market actually hit its biggest-ever figure in the third quarter of 2011, with 96m PCs shipped. But since the third quarter of 2012, if you exclude Apple figures, the Windows PC market has shrunk for 12 straight quarters. Now it’s 31% down on that peak, and nobody’s quite ready to call the bottom. It’s going to be under 300m this year – the smallest since 2009, in the midst of the financial crash – and that’s even with the launch of Windows 10.
